Classes

OCF-Canned_Edited

Canning is a centuries-old method of storing food when we have access to it, for use during times when it is out of season

Have more vegetables or fruit than you can eat?

Want to preserve all those great garden vegetables?

Learn how to safely preserve your fruit, vegetables, and meat

Our certified Master Food Preserver at the Old Crowe Farm is now offering a series of food preservation classes, using up-to-date research, newest techniques, and “tested & approved” recipes.   Each class is composed of formal instruction, actual preserving demonstrations, samples, and recipes. Whether you are already experienced at food preservation or a novice wanting to learn, our hands-on workshops have something to offer everyone!  Check out our available classes and register today.

Locations

Classes gather at our farm, a private party in your home, or a community hall of your procurement. We are mobile so we can take our classes ‘on the road’ to your community center or Farmer’s Market.  Our farm is in south central Virginia and we teach in cities across Virginia and North Carolina.

Class Duration

Some classes are designed to last a full day, some partial, and others evening only. We also custom design classes to meet your needs.

Instructor

Our Certified Master Food Preserver has received training at Cornell and holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Food Science/Nutrition.

Supplies

We provide all food, canning jars, and class handouts. If you’d like more information or have a question prior to the start of a class, please contact us.

Attendance

We arrive approximately 30 minutes before class to prepare and set-up. Plan to arrive a few minutes early to allow time to prepare for class, set-up your materials, hang your coat, purse, etc. Being prepared to learn when class begins ensures that we cover all of the material you’ve paid to learn. Should you have an emergency, please email us at info@oldcrowefarm.com so that we can notify your instructor of your absence.

Cancellation

Most of our on-farm classes can only accommodate six individuals; as a result, we often have a waiting list of students that would love the opportunity to participate. We require a 7-day notice to receive a full refund. However, if you cancel with less than seven days’ notice, we will issue a full refund should we fill your spot with someone from our wait list.
