Mentoring Curriculum
For those who have little to no experience with the American Guinea Hog, benefit from our years of experience. We offer a comprehensive one-on-one mentoring program here at the Old Crowe Farm.  Mentoring topics include:

  • Breeding & genetic considerations
  • Castration (hands on when possible)
  • Dispatching & butchering
  • Ear tagging (hands on when possible)
  • Farrowing
  • Feeding & watering
  • Fencing
  • Health management
  • Housing
  • Infrastructure
  • Parasite control (hands on when possible)
  • Registering
  • Seasonal requirements
  • Stock selection
  • Weaning
  • Q&A

Class starts at 9am and ends at approximately 3pm. We take a break for lunch (which we provide) around noon.

Scheduling
We schedule the mentoring class year round. Since everyone’s farm environment, experience level, and situation varies, we offer the mentoring on a one-on-one basis. Come alone or bring family members or farm hands.

Select the number of students. Once payment is received, we will contact you to confirm scheduling.

Overnight B&B Accommodations
Many of our customers travel quite a distance to get here.  Since class starts at 9AM, most take advantage of the B&B accommodations available at our farm.  The overnight also enable folks to see how we run the farm and interact with the pigs (as well as taste our guinea hog sausage).  You can find out more about our B&B at http://oldcrowefarm.com/farmstay-bed-breakfast/.

Follow-on Support
Mentoring also includes any follow on support you need after you leave us.  Our goal is to equip you with enough knowledge and support for you to be successful with your guinea hogs.

Cancellation
Cancellation requests are handled as follows:

  • More than 14 days prior to expected arrival date receive a refund of payment less a $25 processing fee.
  • 7-14 days prior to expected arrival date receive a refund of payment less a $50 processing fee.
  • Less than 7 days of expected arrival date or no-shows receive no refund.
